Making Dreams a Tangible Reality

Greenville Pitt Education Association is a nonprofit organization that was incorporated in 2013. Our members are individuals that believe education is the key to success and generously dedicate their time and resources to helping our students. We also believe that “our children are our future”. For those reasons our organization has created a Scholarship Foundation to assist students with the staggering cost of c continuing their education. Since August 2017, we have awarded six scholarships annually of $500 each to applicants from each of the 6 Pitt County Public High Schools. As our foundation grows, we plan to help more students in our community in the coming years. To help meet our goals we seek donors and sponsors to support our endeavor. Your support of our program could make the difference in the life of a student. About Karen

My name is Karen Turnage

Karen Turnage is the Executive Director and Co-founder of the Green PEA organization. Karen is a long-time resident of Greenville NC. As an active member of the community, Karen has a genuine passion for encouraging and assisting our youth. Karen has spent many years working as a volunteer in Pitt County Schools. Upon retirement from the medical field, Karen now devotes her free time to developing and building the Green PEA Scholarship Foundation.

Bishop Dr. Marion L Barnes, Sr.

Bishop Dr. Marion L. Barnes, Sr. was a founding member of the organization and served as Advisor and Public Relations Liaison.

The Bishop Dr. Marion L. Barnes, Sr. Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student attending Farmville Central H.S. each year in recognition of the years of dedicated service he gave to this organization and this community.

Doris Price

Doris Price is a retired educator for the Pitt County School System. In 2019 Doris became a member of the Greenville Pitt Education Association (Green Pea) where she serves as recording secretary.

I am Matthew Koonce, Green PEA treasurer, and long-time member.Retired from E. I. DuPont and NC Department of Public Safety.A strong advocate for education.

Jessie Little

My name is Jessie Little, Education Coordinator for Greenville Pitt Ed. Assuciation, Inc.

I retired May 2005 with 30 years of service in public education, in Pitt County Schools.
I became a member in 2012, This is an organization that is dedicated to supporting, and assisting our students in Pitt Country.
As our scholarship Foundation continues to grow, we plan to help more high school Seniors at each of the Pitt County High Mott0: "Our children are our Future"!

Valerie Tyson

I am Valerie Tyson, I have been a member of the Green PEA Scholarship Foundation since 2023. I am a licensed cosmetologist. I served on the Town of Winterville Youth Committee from 2009-2015. I am also the founder of the Winterville Community IMPAC Organization. I am a firm believer in our motto, that our youth are our future. Peace and Blessings.

Green PEA was created in 2006 by Karen Turnage, with the purpose of assisting students in Pitt County Public high schools to reach their academic and career goals. Since its inception, Green PEA has established itself as an integral part of the Eastern NC community, offering scholarships and financial assistance to countless students who need it the most. Our mission is to provide students with the necessary tools to succeed, both academically and professionally.

Donors can sponsor a scholarship in their name or in memory of someone else with a $500 donation.
